• There are more than 1,300 species of bats in the world.

• Fewer than 10 people in the past 50 years have contracted rabies from a North American bat.

• Bats play a crucial role in our ecosystem.

• Bats cut down on mosquitos and other insects because 70% of them are insectivores.

• Bats need homes to provide protection and to raise their young.

You may notice bat boxes being installed at our local parks this spring. Bondurant resident Isaac McIntosh has graciously built and donated eight boxes for his Eagle Scout project. The City is hoping the bat boxes will help cut down on mosquitos this summer and make visiting neighborhood parks a more enjoyable experience. A big thanks to Isaac for all of his hard work!
